This was my first foray into trail shoes. I have been using hiking boots all of my life but i wanted to try these out to see if using a lighter shoe would be better. It certainly helps with speed as I felt lighter and hiked faster than I normally would even though the terrain had lots of elevation gain. I did have a little trouble keeping them cinched up, though, but I believe that this was just part of the breaking in period. As I hiked, they started to feel roomier in the toe box and I noticed a lot more movement of my foot within the shoe. I did buy 11.5 W shoes and I wore compression socks and thick wool socks with them but I did not expect to have some much room in them. I am 5'10" and weigh 224 lbs, so I am not a lightweight hiker. I put nearly 16 miles on them in the past 2 days and they have held up well. I wasn't carrying a pack so there was no extra weight. I'm not sure if trail shoes are right for me over long hikes or with more weight on my back since I really need more ankle support. I see lots of YouTubers doing ultralight thru hikes in these shoes so I know they can be used for this purpose. I might have to adjust my hiking style to adapt to these shoes but I'm still undecided if I would use them for this purpose. They are fine for local day hikes but long distance hiking in trail running shoes might not be what works for me. They do seem to have plenty of padding and were extremely comfortable, which I liked, but I might have to get used to using a shoe that is considerably less sturdy than a leather mid-rise hiking boot. I am going to try to build up my ankle strength as I think that might be part of the issue. My Merrell Reflex leather hiking boots are broken in and are very comfortable and are extremely durable so I am not ready to stop using them yet. Overall, the shoe is great!I've had 3 Men's Cascadia shoes and I'm hard on them, I wear them to work all day, out on errands, and walking/hiking. I was disappointed after my first pair wore through the toe area after 9 months. When I got my last pair (the black/orange pictured), I knew they were going to last longer because there is the protective layer over the top of the toes. Indeed, these lasted about 14 months. I guess I wasn't paying attention to anything other than price when I got this latest pair, they fit small/pinch my right foot's big toe, and they have NO protection over the front of the toe it's just the mesh.I'm not too hard on my shoes myself but as a vet I do have animals stepping on my feet all day, pet pot belly pigs nibbling/rooting around them, and litters of puppies attacking them. But it all comes down to the front toe fabric wearing through way before the shoe has aged or tread has worn significantly. I electrical taped the toe of the black/orange ones and wore them another year but I definitely feel I down-graded with these Cascadia 14s. Also, I am a 6 ft female who wears 7.5 female size and have worn boy's or men's 6.5 -7s in Brooks for over 10 years and this is the first size 7 that didn't fit in the toe. I have narrow feet, high arches, my second toe is slightly longer than my big toe, and the support of these shoes is great but the fit and composition are not really what I'd call durable for trail or my life.These work for me, ymmv. I've tried the Altra temps, (too flat and wide and started to fall apart right away), and Scarpa (blister city) but all this is subjective. I knocked off a star because the 15s I think do deserve a 5 star. Not a lot else to say except they work. I have a pair of 15s but tried these as the 15s are wide, these regular. They both have the velcro for gaitors at the rear which is a must for me. ALL trail shoes should have this in my opinion. The 15s have a finer mesh upper and a neat bungie for holding your laces, eliminating my need to double knot. I got the 14s on sale. I have somewhat wide feet but these are wide enough for me in the regular. I'll stock up on 15s when they go on sale. The 14s are fine if you can get them cheep enough in your size.I have had these shoes for a week now and I absolutely love them. I have used them daily on trails ranging from 3-5 miles and my feet feel great. They are fairly lightweight, supportive and give you a great feel (wish more shoes offered a wide size). The grip is also a strong point and is more than enough for anything I would use them for. Like I said I have only had these a week so I cannot comment on the longevity of the shoes, but they seem very well constructed so I'm sure that won't be much of an issue. All in all I think these are a great value for such a good shoe.I have covered 989kms of extreme terrain running with this shoe. Two marathons and monthly 200kms of trail forest running. I have to say it has served me well and still stands strong, but for obvious reasons I have to retire it. I am an Asics addict but I have to say this also ranks very well with me and I am torn between the two. I have done lots of rainy forest runs, tarmac and it has protected my knees very well. See my photos below after covering 989km of hard terrain forest running, 2 marathons, and average of 200 kms per weekI was buying Brooks Adrenaline running shoes for walking (3 miles per day) on coarse pavement with hills and was wearing out the shoes in 3.5 months. I decided to switch to a more rugged shoe to make them last longer. I've had the Cascadias for two weeks, and I think they will last longer, but they certainly don't provide the cushioning as the Adrenaline. They are not bad and are very sturdy. I typically by 10 EEEE, but I bought these 10 EE because they were shown as "wide". They are not tight, but if available, I will buy 10 EEEE next time.If you have wide feet like me, you may want to consider another shoe. After wearing them, and walking a couple miles, they loosened up, but still on the snug side. Pleased with the quality, just run a little narrow.I walk 120-200 miles a week. I've rarely had bad experience with brooks. That said these are very nice. Two oddities though, the fabric feels a little thin/airy compared to my others, and the bottom of the shoes came with some substance on them that made them squeak. The squeaking went away after about 40 miles of use.One thing I like is the tread is slightly pointed/angled, which makes for a good grip.Fantastic shoe from Brooks. I’ve not tried any trail shoes before, but used their Adrenaline GTS running shoes in many iterations. Tested these out today on a very wet, muddy trail, with sections of steep incline over wet rocks and didn’t slip once. Really great purchase.Heel wore away in less than 5 months, I only use these for walking the dog 5-10 miles 3x a week and there failing already, iv asked for a refund. Waiting on the seller getting back to me. Edit the company gave me a full refund right away very pleased.Very comfy and stable running shoe. Also surprisingly waterproof in moderate rain.Nice trail shoesGood fit
